The next total solar eclipse visible from the United States will occur on April 8, 2024. The path of totality will pass through several states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Vermont, and Maine. Major cities such as Dallas, Indianapolis, Cleveland, and Buffalo will be in the path of totality, providing many opportunities for people in the United States to witness this spectacular event.

There are four types of solar eclipses:

  1. Total Solar Eclipse: This occurs when the Moon completely covers the Sun, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness for a short period along a narrow path on Earth.

  2. Partial Solar Eclipse: In this type of eclipse, the Moon covers only a part of the Sun, and the Sun appears as a crescent shape in the sky.

  3. Annular Solar Eclipse: During an annular eclipse, the Moon is farthest from Earth, so it appears smaller and does not completely cover the Sun. This creates a ring of sunlight around the Moon.

  4. Hybrid Solar Eclipse: Also known as an annular-total eclipse, this is a rare type of eclipse that transitions between a total and annular eclipse along its path. The type of eclipse that is observed depends on the observer's location along the path.
